ABOUT John Biera


John Biera is currently in his third year as Principal of Central High School in the Phoenix Union High School District. He is now beginning his 35th year as an educator. John started his career as a science teacher/coach in Texas, teaching subjects such as Earth/Life Science, Physical Science, Chemistry, and Physics. His coaching duties included the following sports: football, wrestling, basketball, track and field, and baseball.  He served a total of 13 years as a classroom teacher/coach prior to becoming a school administrator in Texas.

John is entering his 22nd year as a secondary school administrator serving in the following capacities: assistant principal, director, and principal. He has worked as an administrator in the states of Texas and Arizona, experiencing administrative work in the following levels of public education: elementary, middle/Jr. high and high school. Prior to becoming the principal of Central High School, John served as the principal of Coronado High School and Arcadia High School in the Scottsdale Unified School District.

A proud father of two young adults, John enjoys spending quality time with his daughter Alex, a graduate student at Arizona State, and his son, Jacob, a junior at the University of Texas, Arlington. Other hobbies include automotive mechanics, a variety of physical activities, and of course, fishing. An advocate for all students, John is aware of the power of our young people and their willingness to seize opportunities to achieve greatness.
